A record year for tourism in Spain

Spain recorded in September a record number of foreign tourists arrivals in August,
this can be explained by the political unrest in rivals market in Turkey or Egypt. Spain satisfies perfectly the sun seekers.

The country hosted in August 8.3 million foreign tourists, a figure up to 9 % compared to the same period of 2012. The number of French tourists, in particular, has increased 9% so 1.8 million of French arrivals. In the first eight months of the year, 42.3 million foreigners came to spend a holiday in the country, a figure up to 4.5 %.

During a press conference in Madrid, Jose Manual Soria (the industry Minister) said:
“It is very probable that 2013 have been a record year for tourism”, also by state optimistic forecasts for fourth quarter.
The Spanish economy is heavily dependent on tourism since the 1960´s, the tourism counts for more and less than 11% of the Spanish economy. The United Kingdom, France and Germany are the main tourist source countries.

The number of Russian visitors has increased in the last years: the first eight months of 2013, they were 1.1 million Russian travellers in the country, a figure up to 30 % compared to 2012. Despite the record of the internationals tourist arrivals, it notes a decrease of the domestic travel of 6.9% between January and July.

However, homeowners are taking benefit of the increase of the international tourists. The homeowners offer a kind of “low-cost rents” through online bookings, many visitors chose to rent a particular home instead of hotel accommodation.

Luxury stores as well as Jewellery are also taking advantage of this situation. Indeed, these customers are less affected by the crisis as others so they can therefore find their happiness in different luxury stores.
