The Hyatt hotel group has reached an agreement with Agbar Group,
owner of the iconic tower conceived and designed by famous French architect Jean Nouvel. Hyatt plans to convert the emblematic Agbar Tower into a 5* deluxe hotel and also a leisure complex, which will also include restaurants. The purchasing company, Capital Emin will pay between 150 and 250 million for the Agbar Tower.
The Tower has 31 floors and 50 600 square meters. This area is shared between the Aguas Barcelona, technical facilities, parking and also the auditorium. The Hotel will feature 417 luxury hotel rooms and will be located in the third highest building of Barcelona.
The plan designed by Hyatt is going to invest 35 million euros for the transformation of the office building, a project that has already been reported by the Mayor of Barcelona, Xavier Trias. The transaction for the purchase of the building, the hotel group wants to turn into a public open space that could receive 1.5 million visitors per year.
In recent months, Agbar has had discussions with different backgrounds and have finally found the buyer in Emin Capital, a company that runs Jordi Badia Llorens and has offices in Luxembourg, Barcelona, Lima and Mexico.
For his part, Mayor Xavier Trias has welcomed this operation but recalled that “a transformation of the tower in a hotel must pass before the permits and papers“ so that the operation can be done correctly and according to existing legal requirements.
