A record year for MICE tourism in Catalonia

The MICE tourism grows about 27% in Catalonia during 2013.

The number of business travelers and conferences increased by 15.7%. A total of 1.6 million of foreign travelers who visited Catalonia in 2013 to attend business meetings, trade fairs and conferences, which represented an increase of 15.7 % over the previous year reported by the Catalan Tourism.

This volume rating generated an expense of 1,800 million euros in 2013, up 27%, according to official data to be released at the inaugural Tourism Forum Meeting of Catalonia.

The secretary of the Department of Business and Competitiveness of Catalonia, Pere Torres, said that the increase in income has exceeded growth rating. “This is the way. Tourism quality may not be a slogan, it must be a reality and business tourism is a line of action that points to here.”

The conference, organized through Catalunya Convention Bureau / Catalan Tourism recently has gathered nearly 500 professionals who have debated sales techniques training, ICT technologies, offer, etc.

The promotion strategy for this segment has deployed that the Catalan Tourism is concentrated with the source markets: United Kingdom, Germany, France and Russia. But also in the coming years the emphasis will be on the Nordic countries, United States and Southeast Asia. Catalonia will also expand its network branch in overseas promotion.
