We talked for some minutes with Lydia Toldra the Sales Director to get to know how the story of this restaurant started more than 70 years ago.
RTA: I read that “Cal Pintxo” has a very interesting history… Please tell us more about the story how all started?
Lydia: 70 years ago a man called Jose Costa started to sell sardines with his wife on the front beach of Barceloneta –At that point people began to call him “Pinxo”. One day he decided to open a seafood restaurant in front of the Barceloneta Beach and named Can Costa nevertheless in 1979 the restaurant changed its name and became “Cal Pinxo” and was there until 1991. In 1986 when Barcelona was nominated Olympic City the urban coast was remodeled and the Restaurant had to leave their original location to reopen in 1999 in Palau de Mar building facing to the Old Port of Barcelona.
RTA: “Cal Pintxo” is located in the historical building Palau de Mar. Tell us more about this privileged location?
Lydia: Palau de Mar was built in the 1880’s. This old building of former docks was used to store material from the ships but today is the head quarter of the Catalonia History Museum.
RTA: What can “Cal Pinxo” offer to Incentives groups?
Lydia: Cal Pinxo Palau Mar offers Mediterranean gastronomy; it is specialized in seafood paella, fresh fish, seafood and traditional tapas. Our group menus are designed to show our guests the real taste of the Mediterranean cuisine offering the finest raw materials. Our aim is to create an unforgettable gastronomic experience. We offer a terrace with a capacity for 200 people and two rooms with a capacity of 70 and 50 people.
